Swachh Roads
Out of many issues in India, waste management is a big issue that needs regular attention daily otherwise, it can become a big problem for the people. People try to keep their homes and offices clean and through the waste in public spaces. Roads are the major target of the public where they dump their waste. The drainage pipes are clogged in almost every city.
As per the report from the Central Pollution Control Board, CPCB, the total waste generated by urban India is nearly 47 million tonnes. The population is growing at a fast rate and it become a challenge for the govt to maintain clean roads.
Responsibility of the Facility Management
The govt or the agency hired by the govt is responsible for cleaning the roads. They should clean roads, footpaths, roadways, dividers, public toilets, and other infrastructure that are made by govt for the public facility. They need to follow the guidelines below during the cleaning process of roads.
- The environment should be clean.
- Hire an agency that will clean the roads.
- There should be surprise inspections on the roads from time to time.
- To maintain a high standard of cleanliness in public places.
- To train the staff, supervise the staff, and control the staff.
- To provide the cleaning materials to the staff and provide equipment to the staff.
- To maintain proper records for the staff, cleaning material, and equipment.
Swachh Schools
The next target under the Swachh Bharat Mission is schools. Schools needed to be clean. The poor sanitation in schools leads to diseases in the children. The local govt is responsible for maintaining the water quality in the schools. Students spend almost half a day in school, schools are the second home for the students and they need to maintain their hygiene.
Schools are forced to have regular cleaning of the area. There should be a proper hand washing facility at the school. The toilets needed to be neat and clean as they affect the mental and physical growth of a child. Students take infections from the schools.
Responsibility for Facility Management
- The govt should take responsibility for cleaning the schools or they can hire an agency to clean the schools.
- The school environment should be clean.
- The school should have the proper staff to look for cleaning of the area.
- There should be regular inspections at the schools to check the cleaning of toilets and water quality.
- Schools should adhere to the high standards of cleanliness.
- The staff must be trained properly and they have the proper cleaning equipment and materials.
- The schools should maintain the proper record of cleaning staff, materials issued to them, etc.
- The govt should implement a cleaning schedule to ensure proper cleaning of the areas.
- Schools should opt for food hygiene, pest control, waste management, etc.
Swachh Railway Stations
Railways are the next section to cover under the Swachh Bharat Mission as railways have millions of public commuting at the station and trains daily. In India, trains handle 13 million passengers daily in more than 11000 trains. Trains have a sanitization challenge due to heavy traffic. It is the responsibility of the Indian Railway to provide safe and clean service to the people of India. The surroundings of trains and stations should be clean.
Responsibility for Facility Management
- The environment should be clean for passengers, vendors, and railway staff.
- There should be surprise inspections to check the cleanliness of the railway stations.
- Train the staff properly and equip them with materials so that they can clean the railway stations.
- To maintain a record of everything like staff, duties, material, etc.
- To have cleaning schedules to manage the cleaning efficiently.
Swachh Hospitals
The next target of the Swachh Bharat Mission is Hospitals. Hospitals should maintain hygiene and cleanliness. There should be proper waste management in the hospitals. Sick people come to recover there, it is the responsibility of the govt to provide a better and cleaner environment to the public and never let the virus spread from the hospitals.
Responsibility for Facility Management
- The surroundings of hospitals should be clean.
- There should be proper staff who will clean the waste from the hospitals.
- There should be proper disposal of hospital waste.
- The cleaning staff must be trained so that they do not get an infection while cleaning the waste and stop the spreading of infection by taking proper measures.
- There should be inspections regularly.
- The hospitals should maintain a record of cleaning activities.
Swachh Neighborhoods
The next target under the Swachh Bharat Mission is the neighborhood. The neighborhood should be clean. Waste management is a big issue in India as people are dumping waste anywhere.
Scope of neighborhood
The neighborhood includes the following areas.
- Residential Areas like gated, semi-gated, and nongated societies
- Roads, streets, footpaths, passages, drains, garbage transfer stations
- Parks, Gardens
- Transport Facilities like Bus stops, metro stations, etc
