Nagar Palika Parishad, Modinagar has set up various departments for the smooth functioning of the city. We are going to discuss the work of these departments for the city below.
Swachh Bharat Mission-Urban Department
The city set up the Swachh Bharat Mission Urban Department in 2014. The dept aims to manage the solid waste properly. They aim to adopt the scientific ways to manage the waste. The second phase of the dept was launched in 2021. The second version of the dept aims to make the city garbage-free and it is aimed to be achieved up to 2026.
The dept has inculcated the Swachh behavior among the people of the city. The govt of India has full cooperation with the states and union territories to make India garbage-free. This is set under the Sustainable Development Goals for the year 2030. This initiative is taken to improve the quality of life for the people.
Public Works Department
The Construction Department is responsible for various kinds of construction work in the city. The examples of construction works are given below.
- Road construction work- The construction, maintenance, and conservation of roads in the city is done by this dept.
- Drain construction work- The construction, maintenance, and conservation of drains in the city is done by this dept. This is done to avoid the water logging situation in the city.
- Other construction work- This dept is responsible for other construction works like the construction of community centers, permanent or temporary shelters for homeless people, construction /maintenance of streets, and similar work are associated with this dept.
IT Department
The IT dept has the work of in-house development of various dept. It does the tasks of implementation of software and hardware across all of the dept of the city. The technological-related work is linked to the IT dept. It is the job of IT dept to provide computer operators to various dept of the city. These computer operators will do the work of maintenance.
At present, the IT dept is working on the project of Smart City. It is expected that by 2050, 70% population of the world will start living in cities. The city is one of the cities that is listed in the Smart City. The IT dept is working with the thinking of open mind by taking ideas from inside and outside.
Tax Officers Department

- The dept will maintain the records of land and properties.
- It will have records of unprofitable/unnecessary properties.
- It will have the records of encroached properties.
- This dept does the work of evaluation of properties.
- The dept does the work of issuing a no-objection certificate for building maps.
- The recovery of debris tax is the work of this dept.
Health Department
The work of the Health Dept is given here.
- The dept ensures the cleanliness of the city to avoid infectious diseases.
- This dept does the work of birth and death registration.
- The dept is also concerned about the garbage on the roads.
- This dept also sprays medicines in the city from time to time to reduce the spread of infection.
- The dept is also associated with the work of cremation on the Hindon River.
- This dept also looks for the cleaning of big drains.
- The health dept vehicle will dispose the garbage at the proper place.
- There is a special place meant for the disposal of worship waste from the temples.
Water Works Department
The Water dept provides clean water to the city. The dept also maintains the drinking system. The sewerage system is also the responsibility of the Water Dept. The dept looks for deep wells in the city. The supply of water is also for the slum areas. Every person in the city has the right to get safe drinking water.
The dept also looks for water treatment plants. The tube wells are running in an automated way in the cities. The people are getting water at the scheduled time. The dept takes immediate action if there is any complaint about the quality of water due to leakage of pipe.
Garden Horticulture
The Garden dept is a part of the Municipal Corporation. The objective of the Garden dept is to keep the city green. The plantation of trees is done by the garden dept. To develop parks in the city and maintain them. It also has the responsibility to develop cities under various schemes. The Garden dept establishes coordination with other departments to work efficiently.
